BLUE DOOR THEATRE COMPANY

Blue Door Theatre Company is a community theatre group born out of a desire to explore and produce impactful and thoughtful theatre.

Siobhan Dunne is the artistic director, for over thirty years she has directed productions across a wide range of venues and was a regular director at the Krakow International Street theatre festivals in Poland. Blue Door is an amateur dramatic group but with an eclectic fusion of professional actors, musical practitioners, and talented others, enabling us to go places other amdram dare not tread!

The Bull Theatre established Blue Door following a successful commission by Barnet Museum to produce a production that commemorated the 1471 Battle of Barnet, local playwright James Godwin wrote The Fog of War specifically for The Bull Players in 2021 and was performed in an open-air site, most likely on the actual battle ground. The play centred around the untold women’s story on the eve of battle.

In Feb 2022 Blue Door performed The Pinter Project, two short Harold Pinter plays; Mountain Language and One for the Road, followed by a live interview with Irving Wardle, The Times Theatre critic, and a close friend of Pinter. The evening raised money for Amnesty International which has become our adopted charity. In July 2022 the company performed an anarchic cabaret using material from Dario Fo, Steven Berkoff and Franca Rama, the politics of the 1980s had surprising resonance for today and was brilliantly supported by a slimmed down version of a local band The Silencerz, with all original songs by Nick Godwin.

The Tempest by William Shakespeare is Blue Door’s next production in Feb 2023, the play is often described as problematic for contemporary audiences and Blue Door explore this with panache and vigour. Blue Door is delighted to have Andrew Tiernan and Marios Hajiypanayi alternating the role of Prospero, supported by a fantastic cast.
